President's Welcome Letter 2023

Letter from the President

Welcome everyone to the new Swim Year 2023!  I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of our neighborhood pool since the summer of 2015 and our WHO swim team since my oldest (Waverley) started in the 6&unders in 2017. I love the opportunity we have every summer to have fun hanging out with our neighbors during hot evening poolside pizza dinners after work or when we watch our kids try their hardest to win points together for our team on Saturday mornings, all clad in black and red. It is the truest sense of community for me. I look forward to another summer with all of you, spending time with our community.

The pool will open for summer recreational swim on May 6th! We will celebrate the opening with a Nacho bar and Q&A on the upcoming pool replastering and proposed assessment on the afternoon of the 6th (more information to come.) We will plan to stay open until October 25th, weather permitting.

The Opening pool work party has already happened on February 25th. Thank you to those who have already supported our pool with your volunteer contribution. Our soft opening for Swim Team spring clinic and lap swimming will be on March 6th, but recreational swim is not available until the summer opening in May.

As you have noticed in previous years, we have been unable to reliably provide lifeguards and as this is a membership-owned pool, we are each responsible for our own families. The board has elected to remove the lifeguard program for this year. If you are booking the pool for a party, you do still need to provide a lifeguard and we can still supply a list of contacts for this. If you have any questions about the pool rules, please go to https://www.walnutheightsswimclub.com/cms/rules

For Lap Swimmers, please check the calendar on the website for when the swim team will be using the pool for the swim season - spring clinic, summer, and fall clinic.  We’ll do our best to keep you informed about any changes in the schedule as the swim year progresses.

The club has been notified by the county that we need to replaster the pool. The Board recommends a special assessment for all members and will be calling a meeting of the general membership in accordance with our bylaws. The general membership meeting and vote will happen at the opening party on May 6th, 2023. We need this to keep swimming!

I’m always open to thoughts and suggestions so we can make the swim club safe, friendly and fun for everyone.  Please contact me or any of the board members at the club website.

Ok, thank you everyone that makes this pool work for all of us!  GO Otters!  2023!

-Tasmin Brown, Walnut Heights Swim Club (Pool) President
