Club News and WHO Fall Clinic

Dear WHSC Club Members,

With school starting, we are officially in the fall. I hope everyone had a great summer. We certainly have been enjoying watching and hearing all the laughters and splashes at the club. A few announcements.

No Life Guards
Currently, we have not scheduled any life guards in the fall. If you feel very strongly against this plan, please email us and let us know. We will definitely re-evaluate if we have a large amount of people against this plan.

Pool Hours
OPEN: Tarps will be off at 8am, lap swimmers, please feel free to leave the tarps off after your swim.
CLOSE: Pool closes at 8pm and tarps will be back on

WHO Fall Clinic
Based on the popular vote last year, WHO will be holding a fall clinic starting 9/11. All club members are invited to sign up to the clinic. At least one lane will be reserved for members who are not swimming at the clinic during the clinic practices. Please see the WHO ad below:

Fall clinic with the Walnut Heights Otters!!

The Fall clinic at Walnut Heights will be our first ever extension of the summer recreational swim season headed up by coach Rion Larson! Our program is designed to offer more extensive training and technical instruction with an increase in intensity and volume within each group. The WHO fall clinic will run from September 11t h through October 28t h .

In an effort to provide a positive, structured learning environment the Walnut Heights coaching staff has implemented standards and goals for each group that will assist in the development of each swimmer. Our goal is to provide a low swimmer to coach ratio within a group setting. The Walnut Heights fall clinic will also provide optional Saturday meet in conjunction with other fall swim programs in the area; be on the lookout for details to come from Coach Rion!

Group Descriptions:

5-8- This is an introduction to various training methods involving advanced start/turn progression and drill/race concepts during practice to prepare swimmers for competition in both 25 and 50-yard competition events.

9-11- Training objectives will include increased volume and intensity in preparation for 50 and 100 yards events (and potential 200 and 500 yards events in optional fall meets). Practice will include instruction on various wall transitions and have a strong emphasis on IM and aerobic training while maintaining proper stroke technique.

12-18- Training objectives will include perfecting technical efficiency and precision; continue to refine racing concepts and pacing strategy, and increased power and flexibility through volume and intensity.
